Eagles thrilled with final results

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club end the 2019/2020 Easterns Cricket League season with their heads held high.

Another Easterns Cricket League season has come to an end and the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club couldn’t be happier with how the season turned out.

“Considering all the things that happened to the club I personally think we had a great season,” said chairperson Martiens Grobler.

“The loss of the main field and the loss of a full team were not easy on the club, but we are grateful to the players who stood with us and the new players who joined the club. I really think we had a fantastic season.”

The club’s final results were:

• In the Sunday Directors League the club finished fifth on the log (tied with Tshakane Cricket Club) out of 10 teams.

• In the Sunday President’s League the club finished eighth on the log out of 10 teams.

• The club’s u-10 team finished second on the log out of 11 teams.

“Building a club from the start of the season until now came with many sleepless nights for all,” said Grobler.

“We started with just 11 players, but every week we grew a little more and our club just became a wonderful place to be. I am pleased to report we ended the season with 44 senior players and 14 junior players.”

Grobler thanked Len Jacobs, Carolina Jacobs, Pieter Nel, Darren van Tonder, Theuns Herbst, Anelda Herbst and Sanet Grobler for their help throughout the season.

“Without them the club would not be what it is today,” said Grobler.

The club is looking forward to the new season and would love to grow their membership even more.

“We are appealing to younger players to join the club and play in our u-8, u-10, u-12, u-14 and u-17 teams,” said Grobler.

“Without the junior structure we will not be able to play in the Premier League in the next few years.

“Hand in hand with the junior structure we plan on entering four Sunday league teams and two Saturday league teams within our senior structure.

“We are determined to keep cricket alive, not only for us, but for the whole community and our children who will follow in the years to come.”
