Athletes put their stamina to the test

Athletes, from beginners to pros, tested their skills at the Trinity Sports Triathlon on Sunday.

Athletes from far and wide descended on Germiston Lake on Sunday to test their skills in the second leg of the Trinity Sports triathlon and duathlon series, which began in October 2019.

The Trinity Sports series offers athletes, from beginners to professionals of all ages, a chance to race and hone their skills.

The event was split into four age divisions, namely young ones (eight to nine years old), children (10 to 11 years old), juniors (12 to 19 years old) and seniors (20 years and older) and has both standard and sprint distances.

This event incorporated the Central Gauteng Triathlon (CGT) Championship and though the city experienced its fair share of rain over the weekend, it did not affect the day’s swim.

Athletes glided through a seemingly clam lake for their 1.5km swim, before heading out onto the road for their 40km cycle route and 10km running stint.

Rudolf Naude was the first athlete across the finish line in the men’s division of the day’s standard triathlon.

He finished the race in one hour, 59 minutes and 19 seconds.

He was closely followed by Haydn Corke, who finished in two hours, three minutes and three seconds, and Kelvin Steyn, who finished the race in two hours, six minutes and four seconds.

Eulali Gouws was first in the women’s division of the standard triathlon.

She finished in a time of two hours, 20 minutes and five seconds.

She was followed by Toinette van Niekerk, who finished in two hours, 20 minutes and 23 seconds, and Johandri Leicester, who finished in two hours, 23 minutes and 16 seconds.

He was followed by Andrew Dixon, who finished in a time of two hours, 11 minutes and 39 seconds, and Alan Stidolph, who finished the race in two hours, 12 minutes and five seconds.

Belinda Augustyn was the first woman across the finish line in two hours, 52 minutes and 28 seconds.

She was followed by Lolita Nel, who finished in two hours, 57 minutes and 51 minutes and Bronwyn Holmes, who finished in three hours, 14 minutes and 33 seconds.

The next and final race in the series will be held on April 19.
