ERVBA remember the year that was

The East Rand Veterans Boxing Association (ERVBA) were thrilled with the turnout at their year-end function.

The East Rand Veterans Boxing Association (ERVBA) celebrated the end of another year with a fun-filled western themed year-end function at the Primrose Bowling Club, recently.

East Rand Veterans Boxing Association (ERVBA) secretary Liza Perrin was dressed to impress at the club’s recent year-end function at the Primrose Bowling Club.

Some of the highlights of their year remembered on the night, included the club’s Boxers vs Bowlers Day, where ERVBA members enjoyed a day of bowls, the club’s birthday bash and the unforgettable Champions Evening, where older club members brought the belts and prizes they had won throughout their careers to show to the amateur boxers.

“We had a great turnout,” said Ria Joubert on behalf of ERVBA.

“In addition to our award recipients we had a sprinkling of other famous faces including Thys Burger (Springbok and Northern Transvaal flank) who held a special auction and donated some of the proceeds to ERVBA.”

During the evening’s activities, which included a delicious meal, a number of awards were handed out.

Awards included:

• Sinclaire Ness was named Amateur School Age Boys’ Champion of the Year.

• Maisy Seimane was named Amateur School Age Girls’ Champion of the Year.

• Lindokuhle Khuzwayo was named Amateur Junior Boys’ Champion of the Year.

• Minnet Dicks was named Amateur Junior Girls’ Champion of the Year.

• Geannie Dicks was named Amateur Youth Men’s Champion of the Year.

• Marinda Malajika was named Amateur Youth Women’s Champion of the Year.

• Gerhard Thysse was named Elite Amateur Men’s Champion of the Year.

• Chantel Erasmus was named Elite Amateur Women’s Champion of the Year.

• Peter Armstrong was named Amateur Trainer of the Year.

• Liza Perrin received the evening’s Chairman’s Award.

• Sebastian Rothman was named Up-and-Coming Person of the Year.

• Tristan Truter won the ERVBA Prospect of the Year Award.

• Danny Myburgh received the evening’s ERVBA Special Award.

• Anton Gilmore won the ERVBA Personality of the Year Award .

• Jeff Ellis won the ERVBA Veteran of the Year Award.

• Harold Volbrecht won the ERVBA Trainer of the Year Award.

• Jabulani McKenzie was named ERVBA Boxer of the Year.

“All in all, it was an amazing evening, one that will be remembered for some time, especially by the amateur boxers and their parents,” said Joubert.

ERVBA wished all their members and the boxing community a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year.

Looking to the new year ERVBA reminds the community that monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month.

“We are also looking at sponsors to help with our amateur boxers,” said Joubert.
