Eagles celebrate successful weekend fixtures

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club hosted Tsakane Cricket Club and Boksburg Cricket Club in their Easterns Cricket League weekend fixtures.

The Easterns Cricket League continued last weekend with the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club playing host to the Tsakane Cricket Club in the Sunday Directors League and Boksburg Cricket Club in the Sunday President League.

The matches were played at the club’s home grounds, the Elspark Sports Complex, last Sunday.

In the club’s Sunday Directors League match, Elsburg batted first and knocked up 369 runs, for nine wickets, in their 50 allotted overs.

The day’s top batsmen were Martiens Grobler with 123 runs, Pietter Nel with 62 runs and Tiaan Smith with 53 runs.

Tsakane then took their turn at the crease.

The visitors were bowled out after scoring just 153 runs.

The match’s top bowlers were Theuns Herbst with five wickets in seven overs for 30 runs and Darren van Tonder with three wickets in 10 overs for 53 runs.

This meant Elsburg celebrated a 216-run victory.

In the club’s Sunday President League match against Boksburg, Elsburg were once again sent in to bat first.

The club managed to set a target of 279 runs, all out, for their visitors to chase.

The day’s top batsman was Frank Williams with 150 runs.

Boksburg then came in to bat and managed to knock up 37 runs in nine overs with the loss of three wickets when the game was called off due to lightning.

Top bowler honours for the match went to Cristopher Coetzer with two wickets in five overs for 14 runs and Quintin Rudolph with one wicket in four overs for 17 runs.
