Football club thrilled with year’s achievements

Elsburg Junior Football Club celebrates a successful year.

The Elsburg Junior Football Club was established in 1946 and has been nurturing young talent ever since.

The club makes its home at the Elspark Sports Complex and caters to players from disadvantaged backgrounds from Elsburg, Graceland, Vosloorus, Spruitview, Katlehong, Rondebult and surrounding areas.

It strives to teach children from six to 17 years, as well as seniors more about the beautiful game of football.

“The club’s aim is to uplift and enhance the overall development of soccer, whilst maintaining the highest possible standard of professionalism within the sport through our continuous commitment to player development,” said Goodsherpard Nkosi, on behalf of the club.

“Currently, the club has six teams and a total of 121 players.

“The club is affiliated to play in the Eastern Gauteng Junior Football League.”

The club recently celebrated the end of a successful end to the 2019 league.

Some of the club’s achievements included:

• The club’s u-10 team were the league’s fourth division champions.

• The club’s u-11 team were league winners and cup runners-up in the league’s fourth division.

• The club’s u-13 team placed third in the league’s first division.

• The club’s u-15 team won the league’s second division, this is the second time the team has won the title in consecutive years.

• The club’s u-17 team placed third in the league.

Nkosi further explained that the club’s committee members and coaches provide their services on a voluntary basis.

“Whilst we are a self-supporting club, we are always open to support and welcome any form of sponsorship,” said Nkosi.

“The assistance will help us ensure that we can continue to provide an environment where our children can reach their full potential.

“We believe that a sporting mind is a healthy mind.”
