Futura colt Castle On The Hill proved the star attraction at last Sunday’s Emperors Palace Ready to Run Sale, which took place at the TBA complex in Gosforth Park.
Consigned by Ndoro Stud, Castle On The Hill (Lot 91) was knocked down to Gary Woods of Empire International Bloodstock for R1.3-million to top last Sunday’s auction.
From the first crop of his four-time G1 winning sire, South Africa’s Horse of the Year in 2015, Castle On The Hill, a half-brother to the useful winners Purple Persuasion and Espressivo, is out of the winning Go Deputy mare Music Pass, herself a full-sister to the very smart Full Master and half-sister to Emerald Fillies Handicap winner Grandlea.
The well-related colt’s third dam is Cape Fillies Guineas winner Dance Every Dance, whose progeny include former Broodmare of the Year Akinfeet – dam of, among others, Summerhill Stud’s promising young sire Capetown Noir.
Futura’s now deceased sire Dynasty once again proved popular at the sale, with the former Horse of the Year responsible for both the second top lot Steeplechase (Lot 55), and third top lot Mach Four (Lot 55).

Consigned by Far End Farm (agent), Steeplechase was knocked down to Dynasty’s trainer Dean Kannemeyer for R600 000, while the Hemel ‘N Aarde Stud consigned Mach Four went to the bid of Nick Jonsson at R550 000.
Short-lived G1 Racing Post Trophy winner Kingsbarns supplied the top filly sold at the 2019 Ready to Run Sale, with his Vermaak Equine consigned daughter Galactico (Lot 7) sold to Ballymacash Racing for R500 000.
The 112 lots sold at this year’s Ready to Run Sale grossed a total of R14.35-m, while averaging R128 125 in a difficult economic climate.
Summerhill Sales led the vendors’ list, with 40 of their 57 lots fetching a total aggregate of R3.755-m, while EIBloodstock led the buyers’ list, picking up five two-year-olds for a total of R1.565-m.
Futura and Dynasty dominated the sires’ list, with Futura’s three lots to sell fetching R1.61-m, and Dynasty’s trio to sell making R1.475-m.
