Mixed marital arts the big winner at tournament

Annual championships has large amount of entrants.

Competitors from far and wide participated in the annual Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy All Styles Championships last weekend.

The tournament was held at the Raptors Wrestling Club’s facilities in Primrose East.

Kanchu Alex Tebbutt was pleased with the amount of entries received for this year’s competition.

“I had 237 entries over the two days,” Tebbutt said.

“We gave out 750 trophies and had 17 clubs plus our own dojo participating.”

Clubs from Natal, Isipingo, Brits, Hartebeespoort, Pretoria, Centurion, Kempton Park, Springs, Benoni, Soweto, Randburg and Germiston participated.

“One of the highlights of the event were the 11 Champ of Champs trophies which were awarded to the best of the best at the event,” said Tebbutt.

“Five went to kata and creative katas and six went to kumite, points and continuous fighting.”

Another highlight of the event was the tile breaking and high kick categories.

Sensei Brandon Fourie broke the most roof tiles, 12 in total for the day, and walked away with a Champ of Champs trophy.

Tebbutt is looking forward to the next tournament.
