Eagles battle to find their stride

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club faced Bedfordview Cricket Club in their Directors League match, last Sunday.

Rain had an effect on the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club’s Saturday Easterns Cricket League fixture.

“Our u-10 side’s home match against Kempton Park Cricket Club was called off as the pitch was too wet to play on,” said club chairperson Martiens Grobler.

The club’s Sunday Directors League match against Bedfordview Cricket Club, however, went ahead as scheduled.

The Eagles were sent in to bat first at their home grounds, the Elspark Sports Complex.

“We had a bit of a bad start,” said Grobler.

The team lost two wickets in the first over, but were able to knock up a total of 147 runs in their 50 allotted overs.

The match’s top batsmen were Leonard Mugadza with 41 runs, Johan van Greunen with 21 runs, and Grobler with 19 runs.

Bedfordview then took their turn at the crease and were able to score 148, with the loss of only one wicket.

This gave the visiting team a nine-wicket victory.
