The Eastern Local Football Association Football Festival was recently held at Germiston City Sports Club.
The festival was a weekend of junior football and labelled as a friendship tournament.
It was instigated by Durban Central Local Football Association (DCLFA) who wanted to give their players a chance to travel inland and compete on a provincial level.
DCLFA, Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA), Southern Local Football Association (SLFA) and Rand Central Local Football Association (RLFA) were represented in the age groups u-10, u-11, u-12, u-13, u-15 and u-17.
“Bruce King, chairperson of ELFA, asked Germiston City Sports Club if we would like to host the tournament and the club jumped at the opportunity,” said Peter Oliver, chairperson of the Germiston City Sports Club.
“The games started on the Friday evening and carried on until the Saturday afternoon.”
ELFA took top honours in all age groups except in the u-17 division, which was won by DCLFA.
“Overall the tournament was a huge success with over 450 players and officials participating and fun and friendships being formed along the way,” said Oliver.
