Wrestlers showcase their skills

Eleven young wrestlers from the Raptors Wrestling Club competed at the recent Sasol Lake Umusi Tournament.

The Sasol Lake Umusi Tournament was held in Secunda recently, and several young Raptors Wrestling Club members shone at the event.

The 11 wrestlers brought home 11 gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal from the competition.

Some of the results were:

• Tiaan Jansen van Rensburg competed in the u-6 freestyle division and won a gold medal.

• Taniqué Jansen van Rensburg competed in the u-8 female and freestyle divisions and won a gold medal in each event.

• Shannon Jansen van Rensburg competed in the u-11 female and freestyle divisions and won a gold in each event.

• Daniella de Wet competed in the u-11 female and freestyle divisions and won a gold medal in each event.

• Dewald de Wet (junior) competed in the u-13 freestyle division and won a gold medal.

• Anton Strydom competed in the u-7 freestyle division and won a gold medal.

• Juan Vorster competed in the u-7 freestyle division and won a gold medal.

• Ada Smith competed in the u-11 freestyle division and won a gold medal.

• Ciara Deale competed in the female and freestyle divisions and won a silver medal in each event.

• Nathan van Niekerk competed in the u-7 freestyle division and won a silver medal.

• Joubert Deale competed in the u-13 freestyle division and won a bronze medal.

“A noteworthy performance came from seven-year-old Strydom who beat a nine-year-old South African national champion at the event,” said coach Dewald de Wet (Snr).
