Elsburg Wrestling Club cleans up at Brakpan Challenge

Several wrestlers from the Elsburg Wrestling Club travelled to Alberton for the Brakpan Challenge.

Wrestlers from the Elsburg Wrestling Club, based in Mare Street in Elsburg, travelled to Alberton last Saturday to participate in the Brakpan Challenge.

A number of different clubs participated in the event, including Alberton, Bears, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Danie van Zyl, Die Anker, Eagles, Elsburg, Heidelberg, Endlovo, KZN Elite, Mogol Nelspruit, Newcastle, NNR, Northern Natal, Primrose, Ruiter, Rustenburg, Sonop, Soupel, Tuks, Vaal, Vanderbijlpark and West Rand wrestling clubs.

All of Elsburg’s wrestlers participated in the freestyle division.

Some of their results were:

• Nico Potgieter won a gold medal.

• Raymond Alberts won a gold medal.

• Lillian Mabena won a gold medal.

• Igue Kabesa won a gold medal.

• CJ Engelbrecht won a bronze medal.

• Danielle Pio won a bronze medal.

• Latoya Mbena placed fourth.

“Tristen Booysen was also registered to wrestle but had to withdraw because of a medical problem,” explained Joep Joubert, media liaison for Elsburg Wrestling Club.

The club has now turned its attention to and is training hard for the South African Championships.

Following their latest success, the Elsburg Wrestling Club hopes to grow its club’s membership.
