Youngster dreams of furthering athletics career

Help young athlete compete and excel in cross-country.

All she wants to do is excel in the sport of running.

Yonwaba Majamni, a Primrose Primary School learner, is working hard to achieve her goal and is passionate about sport.

She runs cross-country, and has participated in several primary school competitions, namely, inter-primary, district and provincial.

She has achieved excellent results in all of them.

“I want to continue entering competitions, and even pursue a career in sport; however, as a family we do not have the funds,” Majamni said.

She has been selected to represent Gauteng at the SASA National Schools Cross-Country Championships, set to take place at the Rob Ferreira High School sports grounds in White River, Mpumalanga, on September 20 and 21.

“In order to compete in the championships, I need sponsorship.

“I mainly need funding for transport, food, accommodation and my athletics uniform.

“Each competition is different and athletes need different uniforms, so it is difficult for my parents to support my running at this time,” said Majamni.

Majamni hopes to find sponsors so she can participate in club athletics and grow to her full potential, as well as to be able to compete in competitions.

“My father always says I should never give up in the face of darkness because there is always light at the end,” she said.

If you can assist Majamni compete in the nationals, or if you would like to offer her sponsorship to further her athletics career, contact her father Malusi on 081 235 5076.
