Futballing Girls launch Ekurhuleni Women in Sports Awards 2019

Triumphs on and off the field will be celebrated at the awards.

The second edition of the Ekurhuleni Women in Sports Awards hosted by Elspark-based Futballing Girls, in partnership with the metro and the Ekurhuleni Sport Confederation, is set to be held at Destiny Hotel in Ekurhuleni on September 20.

The awards focus on celebrating women in sport from Ekurhuleni.

The non-profit organisation Futballing Girls was founded in 2015 by Moonira Ramathula.

The awards are aimed at providing recognition for individuals involved in the growth and upliftment of girls and women in sport from grassroots level through to elite professional level and their achievements over the past 12 months.

It is open to residents of Ekurhuleni only.

The awards will acknowledge sportswomen across all sporting codes on and off the field of play in Ekurhuleni.

“When I founded Futballing Girls, the primary goal was to develop women’s football in the various communities, especially the previously disadvantaged areas.

“Through the years, I realised how there is a large amount of talent in various communities but little recognition and thought to myself, why not start with an awards ceremony to celebrate the elite athletes in my region,” said Ramathula.

She is the 2017 G-Sports Volunteer of the Year award winner.
