Germiston survive relegation

Germiston City Football Club travelled to Bedfordview to take on Olympia Football Club in the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League.

Germiston City Football Club, with relegation still hanging over their heads, travelled to Bedfordview to face fellow strugglers Olympia Football Club in the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League, last Saturday.

Germiston needed one point from the game to be safe from relegation, but heading into the match the club had a run of bad luck starting with the resignation of coach Sreten Pavlovic, then several injuries to key players and finally the kick-off of the Castle League.

The club pushed these setbacks aside and took command of the game with an early goal from Eddie Mokotedi.

After taking an early lead, Germiston settled into a defensive role, controlling the game from the midfield without creating many chances at goal.

This game plan helped them maintain the lead into half-time.

Olympia came alive in the second half and were able to equalise after beating the Germiston defence.

After three yellow cards from the referee, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Both teams survived relegation after Zwide lost their weekend match.

“Germiston bid a fond farewell to Pavlovic and thanked him for his loyal service over the last six years,” said chairperson Peter Oliver.
