Elsburg pulls out all the stops in semi-final

Elsburg Rugby Club to face Vanderbijl Rugby Club in Kestrel League final.

The Elsburg Rugby Club has had quite an impressive 2019 Kestrel League season.

The club’s efforts not only earned them a valuable sponsorship from King of Cars, but a spot in the final as well.

In the semi-final, which took place on Saturday, at the Elspark Sports Complex, Elsburg welcomed an eager Heidelberg Rugby Club to their home-ground.

Heidelberg were the first team to put points on the scoreboard after drawing a penalty from the home team.

Elsburg Rugby Club’s Wessel Bronkhorst eagerly charged towards his opponents in the Kestrel League semi-final on Saturday at the Elspark Sports Complex.

Heidelberg’s lead was short-lived as Elsburg got a chance to equalise a few minutes later, after they were awarded a penalty.

Rudie Wessels added another three points with another penalty soon after, giving Elsburg a three-point lead against their visitors.

Wessels returned to the scoreboard with a try for the home team followed by a successful conversion.

With a hunger for a spot in the final, Elsburg continued to increase their lead when Boeries Venter scored a try with a successful conversion by Wessels.

Venter cruised past the try line with a second try, however, the conversion was unsuccessful.

A persistent Heidelberg side managed to score a try before the half-time whistle went off. Unfortunately, the conversion was unsuccessful.

The half-time score was Elsburg 25, Heidelberg 8.

Ready to seal the deal, Elsburg came onto the pitch with guns blazing in the second half.

Juan Barnardt was quick to sprint to the try line with a successful conversion by Wessels.

Marinus van Vuuren made an appearance on the scoreboard with a try followed by a successful conversion, kicked by Wessels.

An unstoppable home team managed another try by Jonathan Wolmarans, but this time the conversion by Wessels was unsuccessful.

Heidelberg scored a try, with a successful conversion, but, that was not enough to cover the 29-point lead held by their hosts.

The final score was Elsburg 44, Heidelberg 14.

The man of the match titles were awarded to Wolmarans and Venter.

Elsburg will face one of their biggest rivals Vanderbijl Rugby Club in the final on August 17.
