Elsburg top the Kestrel League log

The Elsburg Rugby Club hosted the Daveyton Rugby Club in the Kestrel League last Saturday.

Elsburg Rugby Club is sitting comfortably at the top of the Kestrel League log with 49 points after a whitewash victory over Daveyton Rugby Club last Saturday.

This was the second time the clubs met in the league and the second time Daveyton failed to get a point on the scoreboard.

Elsburg dominated the match from the first whistle, scoring seven tries and five conversions by half-time, to the delight of their supporters and sponsor, King of Cars.

The second half’s tries were scored by Boeries Venter, Marinus van Vuuren, Andries Kemp, Erasmus, du Preez, Andry Carlson with Divan Brookryk and van Vuuren kicking the team’s conversions.

The match held special significance to the home team as they played in support of JP Strydom, who lost his leg in a terrible motorcycle accident in 2011 and has recently been told he can no longer play rugby with his prosthetic leg.

The Blue Bulls Rugby Union has stated he shouldn’t be playing rugby because his prosthetic leg poses a safety risk.

“We feel this is unfair and wanted to show our support,” said Jolandie Konig on behalf of the club.

The club will next face Heidelberg Rugby Club in an away match.
