Top-class bowling action at National Disability Bowls

Ekurhuleni Bowls (EKB) brings South Africa’s best bowlers to Ekurhuleni.

The National Disability Bowls Tournament, hosted by Ekurhuleni Bowls (EKB), was played from June 15 to 22 at the Delville Germiston and Boksburg bowling clubs.

With a rich history spanning 55 years, the event attracted 50 physically challenged and 36 visually impaired bowlers from across the country to bowl for gold.

Owen James from the EKB executive committee and the convenor of the tournament said this year’s tournament was a thrilling one for him as it was a true reflection of the South Africa we live in today, a rainbow nation.

“We have men and women from different backgrounds competing on an even playing field,” he said.

“This tournament not only unearths the best bowlers on the greens, but it’s an opportunity for the athletes to socialise with their peers and enjoy the outdoors.”

The tournament kicked off with pairs and singles matches being played each day at the two clubs.

Over the seven days, the bowlers played in a round robin, ensuring a total of 14 games were played in the tournament, excluding the semi-finals and finals.
