Young Eagles develop new skills

Junior rugby players sport discipline, sportsmanship and new rugby techniques courtesy of rugby clinic.

The Elsburg Eagles Junior Rugby Club held a rugby clinic at the Elspark Sports Complex recently to groom young rugby players for their rugby careers ahead.

Those who currently play for the club used this opportunity to prepare for the upcoming Valke Rugby League.

“The aim of the clinic was to focus on the basics of the game and safety measures,” said Anelize Fritz from the club’s marketing department.

“Rugby is a sport of defence and attack and relies heavily on sportsmanship and discipline. It is important for us to instil these values in our players at a young age,” said Fritz.

The players rotated across four stations in 45-minute intervals under the guidance of the three main coaches, Chris Fritz, Freddie van der Berg and Alwyn Venter, where they learnt safe rucking, ball-handling and stepping techniques, as well as placement of the ball when tackling and basic and intermediate defence.
