Elsburg manage another win over Katlehong in the Kestrel League

Although Katlehong challenged Elsburg physically in a gruelling Kestrel League clash recently, Elsburg still managed a clean win against them.

Katlehong Rugby Club showed great resilience in their recent clash against Elsburg Rugby Club in the first match of the second round of the Kestrel League.

The match took place last Saturday at the Elspark Sport Complex.

However, their physicality did not translate into tries, leading them to a 60-7 thrashing at the hands of their hosts.

A dominating Elsburg showed their visitors they meant business by scoring their first try minutes after the kick-off whistle, thanks to Boeries Venter.

Venter then returned to the try line just moments later when he pierced through an unguarded Katlehong defence.

After realising their mistake by letting Venter through, Katlehong charged against their opponents and kept a strong backline; however, it was not rock-solid in order to keep Rudolf Erasmus from visiting the try line to give Elsburg a 15-0 lead.

Katlehong soon had a chance to break through the defensive lines of Elsburg and put their first five points on the scoreboard with a successful conversion.

Pieter Hanekom also put five points on the scoreboard for Elsburg.

Marinus van Vuuren added seven points to the scoreboard for the home team after scoring his own try and a successful conversion.

Erasmus got a hat-trick try after scoring two consecutive tries with only one successful conversion by van Vuuren.

Daniel Matthee also visited the try line just before the half-time whistle blew.

The half-time score was Elsburg 46, Katlehong 7.
