Elsburg suffer first loss of the season

Elsburg Rugby Club travelled to Brakpan for their Kestrel League fixture against East Rand Police Rugby Club.

Elsburg Rugby Club suffered their first defeat in the Kestrel League, last Saturday, when they took on East Rand Police Rugby Club, in Brakpan.

The gruelling and physically demanding match expected the best from every player on the field, but it was East Rand Police who reached the try line first.

This try was soon followed by another pushing the home team even further ahead of their visitors.

Elsburg Rugby Club and East Rand Police Rugby Club went head-to-head in the Kestrel League, last Saturday. Here the teams fight for ball possession in a line-out.

Elsburg were awarded a penalty against the home team, but it was unsuccessful.

Juan Barnard scored the first try for Elsburg and Rudolf Erasmus the second with Rudie Wessels scoring one successful conversion.

This left the half-time score at 14-12 in East Rand police’s favour.

The second half proved to be as tough as the first.

The home team once again opened the scoring with two tries and two successful conversions.

Just before the final whistle blew Elsburg’s flyhalf Wessels managed to get over the try line to add five points to the scoreboard for the team, he followed this up with a successful conversion.

Despite their best efforts the team were unable to claw their way to a victory and the final score was 28-19 to the East Rand police.

The men of the match were Danie du Preez (forward) and Rudolf Erasmus (backline).
