Young wrestlers shine at championships

Elsburg Wrestling Club wrestlers travelled to Middelburg, recently, for the Mpumalanga Open Championships.

Young wrestlers from Elsburg Wrestling Club recently competed at the Mpumalanga Open Championships. Showing off their medals are, back: Luhan Herman (who won a LTPD medal), Nico Potgieter (who won a LTPD medal), Lillian Mbena (who won a silver medal) and Lezandri Zandberg (who won a gold medal). Front: Tristen Booysen (who won a LTPD medal), Daniella Pio (who won a gold medal), Tobie Alberts (coach), Charnè Herman (who won a bronze medal) and Charl van Tonder (coach).

Several young wrestlers from the Elsburg Wrestling Club travelled to Middelburg, recently, for the Mpumalanga Open Championships.

The championships saw wrestlers from Gauteng (eastern, northern and central) and Mpumalanga competing for top honours.

The club walked away from the championship with several medals.

“Our wrestlers earned three long term participant development (LTPD) medals, two gold medals, one silver medal and one bronze medal,” said Joep Joubert, media representative for Elsburg Wrestling Club.

“This is a great achievement as our wrestlers are still young and not as well-known as some of the wrestlers of bigger clubs in Eastern Gauteng.”
