A very under-strength Germiston City FC was well beaten by their local rivals Luso Africa FC in a home game played at Germiston City Sports Grounds, last Saturday.
The teams faced off in their first derby clash of the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League for the season.
Germiston City conceded a goal within the first five minutes, giving Luso the perfect head-start in the match.

With five regular first team players on the bench, this was going to be a tough game for the home team.
Though they had the speed, Germiston did not tackle the ball away enough from their opponents and a non-reactive defence left their 18th area exposed.
Luso who have had a good start to the season were set to continue their winning streak, owning ball possession and attacking for the entire first half.
The teams went into half-time with Luso leading 3-0.

Stand-in goalkeeper Shaun Matjeke prevented many shots by an aggressive Luso from finding the back of the net, however, with a scattered defence, he was left exposed many a time, thus inviting Luso to score at every opportunity.
Luso reigned as derby winners with a scintillating score of 8-1.
Luso’s reserve team also held the club name’s high, beating Germiston 4-2.
