Thousands to be won in this year’s Mayoral Kings of Diski Challenge.

The mayor’s parlour, at the Germiston Civic Centre, was filled with eager football fans, on Tuesday, as the teams competing in this year’s Mayoral Kings of Diski Challenge were announced.

The participating teams were winners in different tournaments played within Ekurhuleni during the football off-season.

“We want to ensure we create opportunities for community-based teams to grow so we can provide access for the players to be spotted and end up playing at high-level tournaments, hence we picked the best of the best to participate in this tournament,” said Masina.

“Through these games, we aim to create a positive sporting experience within our city.

“We hope scouts from big teams will be coming through to look out for the great talent that will be on display on the weekend.”

The tournament, which is a favourite on the football calendar, will be held at the Vosloorus Stadium over the Easter weekend.

Teams will play in a knock-out format in the quarterfinals on the first day of the tournament with the winners of each game proceeding to the semi-finals, set to be played on day two of the tournament.

The last two teams will face each other in the finals on day three of the tournament.
