Local children compete in top tennis tournament

Two Germiston children were part of the u-13 Gauteng East Inter-Provincial tennis team.

The 2019 Gauteng East Inter-Provincial tennis teams recently took part in the South African Schools Tennis Tournament.

Two children from Germiston, namely Zander de Jager (Laerskool Oosterkruin) and Jayden Rooskrantz (Colin Mann Primary School) are members of the u-13 team.

The u-13 SA Primary Schools Tournament took place in Bloemfontein and the Gauteng East team placed ninth out of 16 teams.

Danielle Chapman and Boitshepo Maake were selected for the South African A team.

The u-15 Gauteng East Inter-Provincial tennis team with their manager Vitto Labuschagne (front, centre).

Owethu Makhanya was selected for the SA B team.

The following players (and schools they represented) were selected to represent the Gauteng East u-13 team: Danielle Chapman (Laerskool Selection Park), Owethu Makhanya (St Andrew’s), Sophia Koen (homeschooled), Adoné Kidson (Laerskool Christian Beyers), Jani Howatt (Laerskool Concordia), Sarah Moyo (Ashton International College), Boitshepo Maake (Laerskool General Alberts), Zander de Jager (Laerskool Oosterkruin), Jayden Rooskrantz (Colin Mann Primary), Pierre Badenhorst (Laerskool Randhardt), Arron van Eck (Ashton International College) and Juan Pierre du Plessis (Laerskool Impala).

The boys’ manager is Niel Badenhorst and the girls’ manager/coach is Desiré Wilson.

The u-15 and u-19 SA High Schools Tournament took place in Pretoria.

The Gauteng East u-15 team placed 10th out of 16 teams.

Erin McKenzie was selected for the South African Team.

The following players (and schools they represented) were selected to represent the Gauteng East u-15 team: Erin Mckenzie (Holy Rosary), Tayla Wilmot (St Andrew’s), Tyrah Cook (Holy Rosary), Karabo Maluleke (St Dominic’s), Skylé-Lee Elliott (Hoërskool EG Jansen), Tongase Chilango (Curro Serengeti), Kevin Kotzé (Hoërskool Marais Viljoen), Nkosikhona Ubisi (Thutto High School), Stefan Matic (Springs Boys High), Lesedi Malapile (Shangri-la Academy), Eugene Labuschagne (Hoërskool Kempton Park) and Arno Hatton-Jones (homeschooled).

The team manager is Vitto Labuschagne.

The Gauteng East u-19 team placed seventh out of 16 teams.

Tanika Pananio and Isabella Sereo were selected for the South African u-19 team.

The following players (and schools they represented) were selected to represent the Gauteng East u-19 team: Tanika Pananio (St Andrew’s), Anastasia Pesic (St Dominic’s), Isabella Sereo (Hoërskool Birchleigh), Dominique Jansen van Vuuren (Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen), Jamie McKenzie (Holy Rosary), Mphile Kubekha (PT Xulu High), Alistair Dick-Vercammen (King Edward School), Michael Baxter (Bracken High), Ethan Lee (King Edward School), Cameron Christie (Edenvale High), Sanele Saul (Vosloorus High) and Chay van Eck (Ashton International College).

The team manager is Helen Barrett.
