Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted a successful CGA Senior Championships at Germiston Stadium last Saturday.

Germiston Stadium was abuzz with activity last Saturday as senior athletes from across Gauteng competed in the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Senior Championships.

“Overall the event went very well and we are positive that we will have a strong team for the national championships,” said Mandla Radebe on behalf of the CGA.

“The quality of performances made it difficult to narrow down the field and to select a team to represent the province.”

Radebe further stated that though no records were broken at the event, the level of performance from all the athletes was outstanding, especially in the triple jump and 5 000m runs.

“One of the day’s standout competitors was Cornelia Joubert, who won gold in the women’s 10 000m run and silver in the women’s 5 000m run,” said Radebe.

A number of athletes from Germiston’s local athletics club, Germiston Callies Harriers, competed at the event.
