Luso thrilled with weekend wins

Luso Africa FC wins a tight match against Benoni Northerns FC in the latest Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) match.

Luso Africa FC welcomed Benoni Northerns FC to their home grounds, Hattingh Park, last Saturday for yet another nail-biting Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League match.

The heated match between the first teams got underway at 3.30pm and the teams battled for glory until the final whistle.

Neither team seemed to give an inch in the first half despite some impressive tackles and offensive plays. It was back to the drawing board for both teams when the half-time whistle blew and they remained tied at 0-0.

Luso made a few changes to their squad and looked more dangerous in their offence in the first minutes of the second half.

Although clear scoring opportunities were hard to come by, Luso continued to put pressure on Northerns’ defence and were rewarded with a spectacular goal from Sizwe Magagu in the final moments of the match.

This last-minute goal clinched a 1-0 victory for the home team.

The reserve teams’ game had the makings of a highly contested match, with neither club wanting to make crucial mistakes in the early minutes or be the first to concede a goal.

Northerns were the first to draw blood when they found the back of Luso’s net.

The teams headed into half-time with a 1-0 score in favour of the visitors.

After the break, it was clear that Luso had made optimum changes to their style of play.

Eager to put his team on the scoreboard, Stewert Bourke got the equaliser.

From a point behind, Luso managed to secure a 2-1 win when Dario Perreira scored the winning goal with just under five minutes left on the clock.
