Running and poker combined in fun event to raise funds

Victoria Lake Athletics Club to host Poker Run.

Victoria Lake Athletics Club is holding its first annual fund-raising Poker Run on March 21.

The approximately 10km run will start at 8am at VLC.

The run makes its way along a number of streets in the city and then finishes back at VLC, where runners then play poker for an hour with cards they have collected.

The winning hand will win the prize basket.

Entrants will be able to buy extra cards to increase their chances of having a winning poker hand.

The route will be as follows:

From VLC, the runners will run to O Cantinho (one of the prize sponsors).

From there, they will run down to the biggest sponsor of the event, Mike’s Kitchen Lambton.

Plenty of support for parkrun

Mike’s Kitchen has sponsored a voucher for each entrant, as well as a voucher for the prize basket.

After visiting there, runners will head into Second Avenue and visit DJL Hair Studio (which has also sponsored vouchers).

Then it’s off to the Germiston Golf Club (also a sponsor of the prize basket) and finally, the runners head back to VLC (also a prize basket sponsor) to play poker.

Other sponsors of the prize basket include Lambton Spar, Angel Paws, Deebar Mining and

Greenways Pharmacy.

The purpose of the run is to raise funds to brand the club’s gazebo that goes up at most races.
