Young angler learns from the best

Hazeldene angler spends a day with the South African Senior Protea teams.

Sylvie Richards, from Hazeldene, was beside herself with excitement recently when she spent a day with the South African Senior Protea teams from all the various facets of angling.

The young angler was invited by the Protea team to join them for a practice day ahead of the fourth Sport Fishing World Games 2019.

The competition runs until February 16 and sees teams from countries, including Australia, Namibia, Belgium, Brazil, England, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and South Africa, battling it out for top honours.

This was a great privilege for Sylvie as she was exposed to high-level and technical angling by her “penmaat” for the day, Senior Protea team member Steven Nel.

“Special thanks goes to Johan Kruger (Senior Protea team member) who made this valuable experience possible for Sylvie,” said her mom Georgia.

“This was a day she will remember for years to come.”
