Raptors kick-off new year

The Raptors Wrestling Club is back in action and ready for 2019.

Hard work and dedication are what the wrestlers from Raptors Wrestling Club pride themselves on.

The club, based in Primrose East, has been training wrestlers for almost 60 years and has won Eastern Gauteng Wrestling’s Best Club Of The Year, among other titles.

Members headed back to training, last Tuesday, after a well-deserved festive break.

“It was a bit difficult after the December festivities, but the boys and girls were up for the challenge,” said coach Dewald de Wet.

“It took less than 30 minutes for the first warm-up, after which members were right back into the swing of things.

“Their hard work last year paid off as it was immediately evident looking at their technique and movement.”

De Wet and his team are very positive and excited about the year ahead and hope to build the club into a real powerhouse within the South African wrestling world.

“International medals are a very real possibility in the near future,” he said.

The first competition on the club’s calendar is the Presidents South African Championships which will be held in Cape Town on March 15 and 16.

“We are sure our wrestlers will make us proud and bring home medals,” said de Wet.

If you are interested in joining the club, located in Oak Avenue in Primrose, call de Wet on 083 611 7169 or send an email to raptorswrestlingsa.@gmail.com, or visit the club’s Facebook page by searching Raptors Wrestling.
