Eagles fail to soar in weekend fixtures

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League season with several matches, this weekend.

It was a difficult weekend for the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club.

The club suffered defeat in both their Saturday Third League and Sunday Directors League matches, while their Sunday Promotion League match was cancelled.

In their Saturday fixture, the Eagles played host to the Boksburg A Cricket Club, at the Elsburg Eagles’ Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

Boksburg batted first and were able to knock up a total of 282 for eight wickets, in their 35 allotted overs.

The match’s top bowlers for the Eagles were Naeem Khalid with four wickets in seven overs for 36 runs and Leonard Mugadza with two wickets in three overs for 21 runs.

It was then the home team’s turn at the crease.

The team were bowled out for 226 runs in their 35 allotted overs, giving the visitors a 56-run victory.

The day’s top batsmen for the Eagles were Garreth Hann with 64 runs and Khalid with 61 runs.

The team, running high on injuries and low on confidence, travelled to Kempton Park for their Sunday Directors League match against Kempton Park Cricket Club.

The home team batted first and knocked up an impressive score of 441, with the loss of just one wicket, in their 50 allotted overs.

The day’s top bowler for the Eagles was Theuns Herbst who took the only wicket of the match in his six overs for 22 runs.

The Eagles then took their turn to bat and were bowled out for just 160 runs in their 50 overs, giving Kempton a 281-run victory.

The Eagles’ top batsmen were Phillip Crouse with 69 runs and Darren van Tonder with 41 runs.

The Eagles’ Sunday Promotion League match was cancelled after Midrand Cricket Club was unable to field a team.
