Horses, charities, celebrities and media houses partnered at Charity Mile barrier draw

Get ready for the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile taking place at Turffontein Racecourse on November 3.

Bulleting Home will be racing for victory at this weekend’s Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile.

This was unveiled at this year’s Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile barrier draw, which was held in the Red Roman Shed, at Emperors Palace on Wednesday.

The draw saw the 16 racehorses in the race being paired with each of the 16 celebrities, 16 media partners and most importantly, the 16 charities who will all receive proportionate amounts of the R1-million prize money, depending on the allocated horse’s placement.

The money will be shared as follows: first place will receive R150 000, second place R100 000, third and fourth places R75 000 and fifth through to 16th place R50 000.

Bulleting Home, a seven-year-old bay gelding, trained by Sean Tarry, will be running for Reahile Primary School located in Katlehong.

Reahile Primary, which is part of the Peermont Children’s Trust After-School Care Programme, was partnered with the Germiston City News, as media partner and actor Kabelo Moalusi, as celebrity on the day.

Reahile, located in Tshongweni, is a Section 21 school classified as a no fee institution.

In 2016, the school had 833 learners served by only 20 teachers, which meant the school had a 42:1 student-teacher ratio.

The Peermont Children’s Trust sponsors an After-School Care Programme to provide learners with nutritious meals, adult supervision and space to do homework in a safe environment.

Learners are also provided with food parcels for the school holidays.

The Trust also sponsors school uniforms to vulnerable learners as the lack of a school uniform causes many children to drop out of school.

The project assists 628 children across seven centres throughout Ekurhuleni.

Reahile Primary’s celebrity Kabelo was born in Kagiso and is best known for a number of roles including his time in Mzansi Magic telenovela The Queen, and Generations: The Legacy.

Before starting his acting career Kabelo studied marketing and business management at Damelin.

Celebrity and MC at the barrier draw event, Neil Andrews, reiterated what a wonderful event the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile is.

“This race has a rich tradition and was previously known as the Germiston November Handicap.

“In this race, even the horse who runs last wins R50 000 for charity,” he said.

The Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile takes place at Turffontein this Saturday (November 3).

The GCN will be cheering on Bulleting Home for the win in order for Reahile Primary to take the top prize of R150 000.
