A steady start to the season for Germiston City

Germiston City Cricket Club had a tough match in the Saturday First League making their weekend fixtures a mixed bag of results with two wins and a loss.

The young cricketers of Germiston City Cricket Club travelled to Curro School in Serengeti on Sunday for their match against Champions Cricket Club.

After winning the toss, Germiston elected to bowl first.

Choosing to bowl first proved to be a great decision for Germiston, who bowled Champions out after setting a target of 125 runs in 21.1 overs.

Rudolph Swart, Anthony Rose and Jonathan van der Westhuizen, took two wickets each.

Soon it was Germiston’s turn to bat and trouble loomed on the pitch when the scoreboard seemed to stick at 48 runs for some time.

However, resilience shown by Swart in knocking 77 runs, not out, set Germiston up for victory.

Germiston City won by five wickets.
