Mixed results for Eagles’ weekend fixtures

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continued their Easterns Cricket League season with several matches, this weekend.

The Easterns Cricket League season is in full swing.

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club took to the pitch this weekend in the Sunday Promotion League and Sunday Directors League, with their Saturday match being cancelled.

In the Directors League, played at the Elsburg Eagles’ Main Oval in Dinwiddie, the club hosted the Bedfordview Cricket Club.

The home team won the toss and decided to field first.

Bedfordview set a target of 303, all out, in their 50 allotted overs.

The match’s top bowlers were Pieter Nel with three wickets in seven overs for 46 runs and Frank Williams with three wickets in four overs for 32 runs.

It was then the Eagles’ turn to bat.

After a roaring start, with 72 runs in just 10 overs with only one wicket down, the wheels came off and the club was bowled out for 163 runs, giving Bedfordview a 139-run victory.

The day’s top batsmen were Martiens Grobler with 47 runs, Willie Stein with 27 runs and Darren Van Tonder with 27 runs.

In the Promotion League the club travelled to Avion Cricket Club’s home grounds.

The Eagles were sent in to bat first and set a target of 124 runs, all out, in their 50 allotted overs.

The match’s top batsmen were Renier Wiesener with 31 runs and Phillip Crouse with 22 runs.

The home team then took their turn at the crease and were bowled out for 117 runs in their 50 overs, giving the Eagles a seven-run victory.

The day’s top bowlers were Wiesener with five wickets in six overs for 26 runs, Garreth Hann with two wickets in 6.4 overs for 24 runs and Stan Thorpe with two wickets in five overs for 43 runs.

The club’s Saturday Third League side had to cancel their away match against Kempton Park Cricket Club, giving Kempton the victory.
