Hard-hitting action during Fightstar 35

Chris le Roux and Brian Motholimi represented Thunder MMA at Fightstar 35 last Saturday.

Thunder MMA’s Chris le Roux and Brian Motholimi took to the Fightstar 35 hexagon to showcase their skills last Saturday.

Fightstar is Africa’s biggest and fastest growing MMA promotion, with both professional and amateur athletes competing.

The event was held at the Zambezi Action Sports Arena in Pretoria, with le Roux facing Collins Chauke from Soshanguve Fight Club and Motholimi taking on Dante van Niekerk from Total Submission.

Motholimi was the first of the two in the ring and came out of his corner strong in the first round beating back his opponent and landing some vital hits.

“Round two didn’t go our way as he unfortunately got trapped awkwardly against the cage and the referee stopped the fight declaring van Niekerk the winner,” explained Thunder MMA head coach Pietie Coxen.

Van Niekerk was taken to hospital soon after the fight.

Le Roux had a better time in the hexagon dominating his fight from early on.

“He stuck to the game plan and even when he was on the ground he kept calm and in control,” said Coxen.

Le Roux was able to land a beautifully timed punch which knocked his opponent to the floor.

He capitalised on this advantage and launched an attack on Chauke while he was on the ground, causing the referee to stop the match and name him the winner by technical knock out (TKO).

The club and coaches were pleased with the effort and performance given by the two young fighters, as they begin preparation for their ext
tournament.
