Luso come out on top in Super League Cup

Luso Africa FC beat back Randburg Football Club to be named Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League Cup champions.

The Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League Cup came to an end for Luso Africa FC’s first team, last Saturday.

The club faced Randburg Football Club in the cup finals, which were held on neutral ground, at Olympia Football Club’s home grounds in Bedfordview.

It was an emotional day for the team who used the match to pay their final respects to long-time club member Chagan Kruger, who was tragically killed in a car accident recently.

After observing a moment of silence in honour of Kruger, the team handed over a signed Luso Africa FC shirt to his family and prepared for the match.

Both teams took a subdued approach to the opening minutes of the match, using the time as an opportunity to size each other up and put their game plans into place.

In the 25th minute of the first-half Luso were rewarded for their slow and steady approach with a goal from Roberto Da Silva, after a good cross pass from Liam Jordaan.

This would be the only goal in the first half and the teams went into the break with Luso in the lead.

The second half started on a subdued note, once again.

Luso’s Sizwe Maguga soon made a go for goal but was unable to convert.

This was followed by the loss of Jordaan, who was sent off the field with only 20 minutes left on the clock, leaving Luso on shaky ground.

Randburg seized the opportunity and began to apply pressure to the Luso defence.

This push was too-little-too-late though as the team, who hit Luso’s crossbar, were unable to find the back of the net before the final whistle blew, meaning Luso walked away the winner with a score of 1-0.

Luso were thrilled with the result.

The win meant the team won both the league and cup for 2018.

Other results:

Luso’s SAB team beat Vosloorus Arsenal FC 2-0 in their match.

Luso’s women’s Sasol team beat Nicko Taurus FC 4-3 in their weekly fixture.
