The annual Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale recently took place at the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association of South Africa (TBA) complex in Gosforth Park. Highlands Stud’s bay filly Scented Samantha sold for R1.2-million during the sales, and was the event’s top selling lot.
The annual Emperors Palace National Two Year Old Sale, which recently took place at the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association of South Africa (TBA) complex in Gosforth Park, ended with a high clearance rate and a median increase among its notable results.
The two-day auction, long renowned as one of South Africa’s best value for money sales, had an aggregate of R29.33-million which is up nearly 12 per cent from last year’s sales.
“The average rose impressively, given a tough economic climate, from R80 785 to R90 246 an increase of 12 per cent, while the median reached R50 000 a 25 per cent up on last year’s median of R40 000,” explained Bloodstock South Africa’s Gary Grant.
“Perhaps, however, the most encouraging aspect of the National Two Year Old Sale was the consistent clearance rate.”
The top selling lot was Highlands Stud, part of Ridgemont, filly Scented Samantha.
The filly was knocked down to trainer Brett Crawford for R1.2 million.
The filly is a half-sister to seven winners, notably the graded stakes winners Franny, Dark Justice and top international sprinter Sweet Sanette, with the latter running third in the 2011 G1 King’s Stand Stakes.
Grant was delighted by the sale’s overall results.
“We are heartened and grateful yet again by the loyal support that both vendors and buyers have shown, with both having played a major role in creating yet another successful BSA sale.
