Two world champions for Tebbutt’s

First time US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships qualifier Christina Pretorius wins big in Orlando.

Tyron Stevens and Christina Pretorius recently took a flight to the United States of America to represent Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy in the US Open International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Martial Arts Championships.

Fighters from 38 countries convened in Orlando to compete for the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championship title.

Stevens won third place in both Extreme Musical Weapons Class A Black Belt and in creative form Extreme Musical Weapons Class A Black Belt.

He also brought home two gold medals, one for continuous fighting and one in traditional weapons.

“Thank you to AC Veles and Pick n Pay Lambton and Hazel Park for sponsoring me and to Kanchu Alex Tebbutt for the support,” said Stevens.

The star of the event was Pretorius who excelled in her division taking first place in traditional form kata, extreme musical weapons and in traditional weapons.

Pretorius also took second place in points sparring.

“It was my first time competing in such a big event and I was taken aback by the respect spectators and fellow contestants showed us.

“Whenever we mentioned that we are from Tebbutt’s Academy people took pictures of us and our logo.

“They came to watch us fight and showed us a lot of support.

“Being in America allowed me to appreciate the values and principles we have in South Africa.

“People young and old were complementing us on our discipline and character and in my opinion, the best place to learn our level of discipline is at our dojo.

“I cannot thank our Kanchu enough for his support, guidance and training.

“Thank you City of Johannesburg for sponsoring me, I had an awesome experience,” said Pretorius.

Tebbutt was pleased to have been represented by two students who held the dojo’s name high.

“I am proud of my students for the respect they have shown me and the dojo by showing the world that they come from a disciplined dojo.

“We’re growing stronger.

“Next year I need a few more students to qualify and represent the dojo in the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships.”

The dojo is currently in preparation for the National Mixed Martial Arts ISKA Championships to be held in Cape Town in September.

“I believe we are going to produce a lot of champions in Cape Town,” said Tebbutt.
