Elsburg come out on top in Kestrel League fixture

Elsburg Rugby Club travelled to Katlehong to face Katlehong Rugby Club in their Kestrel League fixture, on Saturday.

The Elsburg Rugby Club continued their Kestrel League campaign on Saturday with an away match against Katlehong Rugby Club.

The match was played at Katlehong’s home grounds Huntersfield Stadium in Katlehong and was delayed due to the late arrival of a match official.

Once the high tempo match got underway it was clear to see neither team wanted to lose.

It was only through continued efforts from the Elsburg forwards which allowed them to break through the home side’s defence to score a try.

Feeling the pressure the home team gave it their all at the restart and were soon rewarded with a penalty, which went to post but was missed.

The visiting team took full advantage of a shaky Katlehong’s fumble and soon scored another try, before the half-time whistle.

The teams picked up where they left off in the first-half with neither willing to give an inch, but through continued pressure, Elsburg was able to break through the home defence to score several tries.

The rattled Katlehong team were able to claw their way through the Elsburg defence to score a try before the visitors replied with another try rounding off the game with a 32-5 victory.

The team were thrilled with the result and will carry the momentum from this weekend’s win into their upcoming fixture against Buffels Rugby Club.

The match will be played at Elsburg’s home grounds, the Elspark Sports Complex, located on the corner of Heidelberg Road and Egret Street in Elspark, on Friday.

Kick-off is at 7pm.

The club is hoping the home ground advantage will help them secure another victory and invite all supporters, old players of the club and their families to come and enjoy the game.
