Germiston City Football Club has had a tough run in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League after a promising start to the season, with coach Sreten Pavlovic at the helm.

This left the team despondent but still eager to get results when they took to the field in Senderwood, missing goalkeeper Tiyani Baloyo, and players Alex Njose, Kabelo Mashabela, Chad Nel and Scotty Chando, for their recent match against Corinthians Football Club.

A minute after the first whistle, Germiston scored their first goal with an impressive strike from Mdu Mkhantshwa.

This seemed to shake the home side’s confidence but boosted the visitors’ resolve and determination.

With Corinthians defence in disarray, Germiston broke down the left flank allowing Thabiso Nkosiwho to score the club’s second goal of the match.

Corinthians making up for previous mistakes fought back and soon settled into a rhythm that allowed them to break down the Germiston defence and find the back of the net.

After several minutes of back-and-forth play, the home side was able to score an equaliser.

This didn’t worry Germiston, who continued to attack the Corinthians’ defence, which resulted in a third goal for the team from Mukondi Rambau just before half-time.

The teams’ went into the break 3-2 to Germiston.

The second half started at a relatively slow pace but the home team was able to score an equaliser in the 25th minute, shifting pressure back to Germiston.

With both sides tiring, the light fading and time running out, Germiston was handed a free kick just inside their own half and captain Dembi Mayimela stepped up to take it.

Through some fancy footwork and a header by Germiston’s Comfort Molebela, the ball found the back of Corinthians’ net with only two minutes remaining.

Germiston was able to maintain the lead and celebrated a long overdue 4-3 win.

Germiston’s reserve team was defeated by their Corinthians counterparts 3-0.
