Luso owns top spot

Luso Africa remains number one on the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League log.

Luso Africa FC clashed against Benoni Northerns FC in an Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League fixture, at home, last Saturday.

Despite a chill in the air, the atmosphere soon heated up as spectators filled the stands and the kick-off whistle blew.

An early goal from Igor Ivanov put Luso in a favourable position and set the tone for the rest of the game as the team managed to keep ball possession for most of the first half.

However, the team lost control of the game when a penalty was awarded to Northerns who converted the spot-kick and evened the score moments before the half-time whistle was blown.

There was a reshuffling of players on the field in the second half, as well as a faster pace on the pitch led by Luso.

Luso created more chances and from their determination, three more goals were scored by Liam Jordaan, Nathan Nel and Sizwe Magagu.

Northerns managed a second goal through another penalty before Ivanov got his second goal for the game and the team’s fifth.

Luso won the game 5-2 remaining top of the league and undefeated.

The second team played a good game despite failing to capitalise on the chances created in the first half.

The midfielders kept an aggressive flow on the pitch and although the team never looked to be in danger of conceding a goal, Benoni Northerns crept up and managed to pierce through with the only goal of the game taking the win.
