Elsburg soar to victory

The Elsburg Rugby Club hosted the Vanderbijlpark Rugby Club in their Kestrel League fixture, on Saturday.

Hard work, superior fitness and discipline steered the Elsburg Rugby Club to victory during their Kestrel League fixture against Vanderbijlpark Rugby Club, on Saturday.

The physical match, which was played at Elsburg’s home grounds at the Elspark Sports Complex, put players through their paces from the opening whistle, with the screams and cheers from the supporters egging both teams on.

The teams were tied 20-20 heading into half-time.

Vanderbijlpark came out strong in the second half but it was Elsburg who inched past their opponents winning the match 34-20.

The team’s tries were scored by Hendrik Dreyer, Adriaan van der Westhuizen and Juan Barnard, with Rudi Wessels converting all the try kicks and taking two penalty kicks.

Man of the match awards were awarded to Dreyer and Anton van Deventer (both backline) and Steven Phillipson and Francois van Dyk (front line).

The team were thrilled with the result and will carry the momentum from this weekend’s win into their upcoming fixture against Delmas Rugby Club.

The match will be played at Elsburg’s the Elspark Sports Complex, located on the corner of Heidelberg Road and Egret Street in Elspark, on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 4pm.

The club is hoping the home ground advantage will help them secure another victory and invite all supporters, old players of the club and their families to come and enjoy the game.
