Raptors wrestlers shine

Three of the Raptors Wrestling Club’s top wrestlers recently represented Eastern Gauteng at the South African Presidents Championship.

Hard work and dedication are what the wrestlers from Raptors Wrestling Club pride themselves on.

The club, based in Primrose East, has been training wrestlers for almost 60 years and recently entered three of the club’s top wrestlers, Connor Bester, Dewald de Wet and Wiandru van Rooyen, into the South African Presidents Championship, where they represented Eastern Gauteng.

“This was a very difficult tournament as the wrestlers were entered according to weight only with age not coming into the equation.

“This meant that an 11-year-old may be matched against a 13-year-old and everything in between,” explained coach Dewald de Wet.

De Wet was extremely proud of the boys’ achievements during the competition.

“Like true apex predators, the pack went about their business on the mat with extreme confidence,” he said.

Each of the boys received a medal in their respective matches.

This small club, found at the corner of Oak and Quince streets, was thrilled with the results as it prides itself on teaching its students about etiquette, self-control, concentration, hand-eye co-ordination and discipline, through a fun and safe environment.
