Winning all the way for Luso’s ladies

Luso Africa FC’s women’s team ended the season on a high when they were crowned league and cup champions.

It has been a busy but highly successful week for Luso Africa FC’s women’s team who played in both the Women’s League and the Women’s Cup finals.

The team walked away as the winners in both matches.

The team first took on Janine van Wyk (JVW) Football Club in the Eastern Local Football Association’s Women’s League final.

The women started the match on a high with Deme Kapatos scoring a well-taken goal in the opening minutes.

This allowed the team the opportunity to relax and enjoy the match, which showed in their dominance of the match and continued possession of the ball.

The continued pressure JVW was rewarded with a second goal by Micaela Gounden before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw Luso step-up their performance even further with a really impressive goal by Mampa Thwaele increasing their lead to 3-0. The team, however, was not done yet and added two more goals to their tally with goals from Nadine Jason and Bongi Radebe.

This gave the club a convincing 5-0 win and ensured the ladies were named league winners.

The club then travelled to Edenvale, last Thursday, where they faced JVW in the Women’s Cup final.

The game kicked-off with many supporters from both clubs cheering on the teams.

After the upset in their league match, the home team didn’t want to give Luso an inch and both teams had a hard time clinching the opening goal.

Luso’s persistence, however, paid off with an opening goal for Deme Kapatos, which was almost followed by a close second from Bongi Radebe, but the JVW’s goalkeeper was able to make an impressive save.

Luso’s goalkeeper Yolanda Mphandle had her time to shine during the match, making several saves before the teams headed into half-time.

The second half was just as thrilling as the first with both teams pushing hard for a goal, however, good defence from both teams meant there was very little action for either goalkeeper.

The match ended in a 1-0 victory for Luso, with Kapatos’ goal enough to clinch the cup title, the club’s second for the week.
