Elsburg win weekend friendly

Elsburg Rugby Club heads into the Kestrel League on a high after beating East Rand Police Rugby Club in friendly match on the weekend.

In final preparation for the Kestrel League, which starts on March 17, Elsburg Rugby Club faced East Rand Police Rugby Club in a friendly match on Saturday.

The teams took to Elsburg’s home grounds at the Elspark Sports Complex for the clash, which offered both teams a chance to sharpen their skills.

The match was tough on both teams, with neither wanting to give an inch or lose possession of the ball.

The visitors were the first to get points on the scoreboard and were still in the lead heading into half-time.

In the second half the home team returned to the field with new energy, and showing off the skills they have worked on so hard in training, they dominated the second half.

Elsburg won the match 27-12, putting them on firm footing heading into the league.

The Elsburg coaching staff were thrilled with the win, but feel there is still a lot of work to be done before the league starts.

Elsburg will be hosting Heidelberg Rugby Club in their first league match on March 17.
