Great victory for Laerskool Oosterkruin

Local school beats the competition to win the Germiston North district inter-primary athletics event again.

Teachers and learners at Laerskool Oosterkruin are walking around with big smiles and with good reason.

The school recently won their pool at the Germiston North district inter-primary athletics event for the second year in a row.

The 67 athletes from Laerskool Oosterkruin competed against competition from Leeuwenhof Akademie, Primrose Primary, Bedfordview Primary and Edenglen Primary.

Two of Laerskool Oosterkruin’s athletes have had an excellent athletics season so far. Vioné van der Merwe (u-7) has been unbeaten in her 60m sprint events this season and Shain Pretorius (u-13) has been unbeaten in his shot-put, high jump and long jump events.

“I am an extremely proud principal because of this win,” said Laerskool Oosterkruin’s principal Chris Kruger.

The school’s athletics coordinator Ilana Wagner echoed these sentiments.

“I am ecstatic.

“The athletes have been working very hard and we had a tough pre-season but all the hard work paid off in the end,” she said.

On Thursday the school was also pleased to send 31 track and field athletes to compete in the D17 athletics event.
