Tough match ends in loss for Germiston

Germiston City Cricket Club’s President’s League team suffered defeat at the bats of the Bakerton Youth Cricket Club team.

The young Sunday President’s League team from Germiston City Cricket Club faced a fired-up Bakerton Youth Cricket Club team at the Germiston City Sports Club on Sunday.

Bakerton, from Springs, took to the crease first and knocked 205 runs in their 35 overs.

It seemed like a score to beat with Germiston’s Johan Botha being the best of the local batsmen scoring 51 runs.

Rudi le Roux also did well with the bat hitting 32 and captain Trestin de Lange scored 28.

The batting, however, did not all go according to plan and the local side were left short of the total, only managing to score 182 runs.

This gave Bakerton a 23-run victory.

The pick of the Germiston bowlers were le Roux with six wickets in seven overs for 25 runs and de Lange and Botha with two wickets each.

The match marked the end of the first half of the season and the second leg of the season will start early next year.
