Club honours hard work

Elspark Football Club celebrated a successful 2017 at a recent fun-filled year-end prize-giving.

The Elspark Football Club (EFC) recently celebrated a successful year with a fun-filled year-end prize-giving.

The club, which makes its home at the Elsburg Sports Complex in Elspark and caters to players from disadvantaged backgrounds, was established in 1946 and has been nurturing young talent ever since.

“The season was full of excitement and breathtaking moments,” said coach Goodsherpard Nkosi.

“All of our players performed exceptionally well throughout the season and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them.”

Some of the players who stood out during the year were:

• Sihle Mabuyane, who reached the u-12 regional trials.

• Vuyo Mbadu, a brave nine-year-old goalkeeper who played in the u-11 team.

The young player saved two penalty shots during the Easterns League Cup semi-finals and one penalty in the cup finals, helping the u-11 team to win the league cup.

• Basie Mbadu (6), who played for the club’s u-11 team and scored a goal against Birch Acres Football Club.

• Comfort Pule, who was recognised for his hard work as u-13 team captain.

• Zander Peterson, who is captain for the u-11 team.

His exceptional leadership helped the team to victory in the Easterns League Cup.

• Sabelo Dladla, who played for both the u-11 and u-13 teams.

His performance at the cup semi-finals against Highlands Park Football Club earned him a standing ovation from the players and spectators.

• Sthembiso Ndekana was recognised as an exceptional and consistent player.

The 13-year-old plays for the u-13, u-15 and u-17 teams because of his outstanding skills on the field. He is described as a natural goal scorer and great finisher.

• Lesego Kotelo (9) scored a total of 42 goals in the season for the club’s u-11 team and scored the winning penalty goal in the Easterns League Cup finals.

During the event the u-11 team were congratulated, once again, for being named champions of their league when they beat Edenvale Football Club 1-0 in the Easterns League Cup finals.

“The generous support from Nedbank and Consol has made it possible for us to create a great place to play,” said Nkosi.

EFC’s committee members and coaches provide their services on a voluntary basis and, while they are doing all they can to stay afloat, they could use a helping hand.

The club is, therefore, appealing for any assistance, donations and sponsorships to ensure that they can continue to operate.

“We believe that a sporting mind is a healthy mind,” said the club’s chairperson, Efnasi Ndlovu.

If you would like to get involved or can assist call Ndlovu on 083 773 1269.

The club is looking forward to the new football season.
