Local athlete makes his mark
Pedro Aaron (18) walked away with not one but two awards at the prestigious Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) awards ceremony, held in Fourways.
Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted their prestigious 2017 Annual Gala Dinner at Montecasino in Fourways, last Saturday.
The awards ceremony honoured athletes, technical officials, coaches and administrators for their achievements in various championships, both locally and internationally.
Among the winners was Hoƫrskool Goudrif learner and Germiston Callies Harriers athlete Pedro Aaron (18).
Aaron walked away with an award for international participation and was named the Most Promising Junior Male Athlete of the Year.
When he spoke to the GCN after the awards, Aaron was pleased with his awards but still felt he could do better.
The matric learner, who is currently the South Africa schools and South African champion in long jump, plans to continue his athletics career next year, and hopes to clinch the CGAās top awards.

Other awards on the night included:
ā¢ Junior Male Athlete of the Year, which was awarded to Kabelo Sekboko.
ā¢ Junior Female Athlete of the Year, which was awarded to Simonay Weits.
ā¢ Senior Male Athlete of the Year, which was awarded to Lebogang Shange.
ā¢ Senior Female Athlete of the Year, which was awarded to Mapaseka Makhanya.
ā¢ Development Coach of the Year, which was awarded to Vusi Masondo.
ā¢ Coach of the Year, which was awarded to Pierre Blignaut.
The CGA thanked their partners and sponsors who have supported the awards and CGA programmes throughout the year, including MTN Foundation, City of Joburg, Nike South Africa, Spar South Rand, JM Busha Investment Group, SR Travel and Discovery, to name a few.
After the awards had been handed out athletes were able to mingle and enjoy the evening.
