Eagles bat their way to away victory

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had mixed results in the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club matches this weekend.

It was a rocky weekend for the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club who celebrated one win out of their two Easterns Cricket League weekend matches.

In the Sunday Promotion League, the club faced the Alberton Cricket Club at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval in Dinwiddie.

“We had a bad day at the office,” said Martiens Grobler on behalf of the club.

This was after a loaded Alberton won the match with eight wickets in hand after the Eagles only managed to score 45 runs in 17 overs before being bowled out.

The club had better luck in their Sunday Executive League match, which was played in Reiger Park against the Vosloorus Cricket Club.

Vosloorus batted first and could only get 74 runs in their allotted 50 overs all out.

Top bowlers for the day were Theuns Herbst with four wickets for 27 runs in seven overs, Darren van Tonder with two wickets for 18 runs in six overs and Johan van Greunen with two wickets for 11 runs in three overs.

The Eagles then took to the crease and managed to score 77 runs with seven wickets in hand.

The day’s top batsmen were Grobler with 37 runs and Pieter Nel with 18 runs.

“We just want to compliment the groundskeeper and metro on the condition of the grounds.

“It has been an eye-opener for us that there are groundskeepers that are so dedicated to maintaining their grounds,” Grobler said.

This week the team will face CBC Old Boys Cricket Club in an away match in the Promotion League and the Tembisa Cricket Club in the Saturday Second League in a home match at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval.
