Tournament boosts young football players

The Primrose Sports Academy is in need of donations to enable it to keep giving children the chance to realise their dreams.

Eager youngsters braved the cold on Saturday, October 28 to take part in a football tournament organised by the Primrose Sports Academy (PSA).

Teams came from far and wide to participate, and a lot of fun was had on the pitch.

Trophies and medals for the players were sponsored by Silvasons Hardware and Building Supplies.

PSA chairperson Doctor Motsoeneng said the academy was re-established in 2010 and boasts a highly popular little league football club for children aged 13 years and older.

The PSA is based at the Primrose Sports Complex in Oak Avenue, Primrose East.

“During the time the academy has been up and running again we have seen over 300 young people pass through its doors,” said Motsoeneng.

“We have come a long way since 2010, and our main aim in establishing the football club was to instill a clean mind-set and living standards in the youth and to eliminate illegal activities among the youth.”

Motsoeneng is proud of the academy’s achievements, and believes the hard work put in by all the people connected to the club is reflected in their on-field success.

All the children who are members of the club come from underprivileged homes.

“There are, however, many expenses connected to running the club, and we rely solely on our own fund-raising events and the support of local businesses.

“We need to take care of the children’s food and drinks, as well as clothing and transport costs.”

The academy relies on donations and sponsorships to enable it to give children the opportunity to realise their dreams and enjoy the sport with their friends and families.

“We will be grateful for any donations, either monetary or in kind,” Motsoeneng said.
